This bi-directional DVI to HDMI cable is used to quickly connect your DVI equipped computer to a display or projector with an HDMI input, or you can connect your computer with an HDMI input to a display or projector with DVI inputs.
HDMI and DVI Compatibility
The HDMI pinout is virtually identical to this DVI-D single link pin out. Both utilize 19 pins, however it is only equipped to handle video. Audio must be transmitted through a separate cable. DVI in general does not transmit audio in any configuration.
